“Grumpy’s Donuts, Dogs, and Fries”, a new family run restaurant that offers outrageous but ridiculously delicious and original food creations; opened here in Chartiers Valley on August 3rd of this year. On top of being a Port Authority bus driver, Grumpy’s owner Keith McAllister, still spends his time in the shop when possible and helps out his son and mother who also devote their time preparing the phenomenal dishes and desserts.
Everyone can get a little grumpy in the morning, but Grumpy’s restaurant reverses that idea with donuts that can start off anybody’s morning leading to a great day. From jimmies, chocolate chips, peanuts, Butterfingers, Peanut Butter Cups, Vanilla Wafers, Oreos, coconuts, bananas, Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, as well as bacon (yes real bacon) and more… Grumpy’s fantasizes everyone’s dessert dreams into realities. Icing on top of a donut? Not at Grumpy’s, they have an original donut they call the “spare tire”, which has vanilla or chocolate icing spread around the outer sides of the donut and is rolled in chocolate chips or whatever topping that intrigues you. Grumpy’s “Zombie Donut” is also another new big hit at the shop. It’s a chocolate crème filled donut with pretzels as the zombies’ arms and legs, a donut hole for the head, and gummy worms all around it giving it that eerie feeling to start off the fall season.
Grumpy’s offers a hotdog that is just like taking a bite into a Primanti’s Brothers sandwich. The “Pittsburgh Dog” consists of coleslaw, onions, fries, and cheese. The Chartiers Creek is also commemorated on Grumpy’s menu with their original “Creek Dog” that consists of pepper rings, onions, gravy, and bacon. One of their dogs is ¼ lb. and wrapped in bacon and deep fried with toppings of jalapenos, pepper rings, onions, garlic, and Pepperjack Cheese thrown onto a toasted bun with a choice of sauce. This huge dog is well represented with its name, the “Zombie Dog”. Some people say that it’s like the Potato Patch opened up in Chartiers Valley, Grumpy’s fries resemble and taste just like Kennywood’s renown Potato Patch fries. Grumpy’s is also kicking off Oktoberfest this year by holding their first annual hot dog eating contest at the Heidelberg Community Park. Local bands will also be at the park celebrating Oktoberfest. Show up and see if you can gouge down the most hotdogs in the allotted time period!
“Grumpy’s Donuts, Dogs, and Fries” is located on 1917 Railroad Street on Washington Pike in Heidelberg. The shop is open Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. Saturday from 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. And Sunday 8:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. 412-276-2729, call them now and have your order ready for pickup!
